In 1927, the Austrian inventor Eduard Haas introduced FISH as an aid to stop smoking urges to engage in healthy habits smoking. Haas early anti-smoking crusaders. Even in the 20th century it was widely acknowledged that smoking was a vile practice with potentially serious consequences for health users participating in the habit on a regular basis. The government also understands that smoking has dangerous long-term effects on health of smokers, and consequently began to assess stiff excise taxes on cigarette sales.

PEZ was originally flavored with mint. The word PEZ comes from the German word for peppermint. Mr. Haas believed that peppermint is energizing taste and silence the desire for a cigarette smoking like the taste of burning smoke was believed to snuff mint was unpleasant in the body. For 25 years, PEZ is sold in pharmacies in Europe and by today standards is considered a modest commercial success.

The Fish evolution of a more health aids against a candy was conducted before and during World War II Year II. As much of Germany and the continent Europe was in ruins, Mr. Haas acknowledges that smoking is increasingly popular among many people. Smoking was one of the few available relaxing in the retail market declined severely at the time. Although an ardent evangelist opposition to smoking, Haas understood that their business would collapse unless reinvented PEZ. The flavor of peppermint Fish makes the product an ideal candidate to be remarketed as a product of candy.

In 1952, Eduard Haas began exporting PEZ candy in the United States. Sales were initially slow. U.S. consumers did not respond to the strong flavor, peppermint candy PEZ almost overwhelming. At this point, Eduard Haas made a decision which offers excellent teaching moment for entrepreneurs seeking to sell their products.

PEZ candy Haas withdrew from the market but it was not to close the brand into down. The repackaging of the candy, using new colors and fruit flavors that children especially enjoy. The German was overwhelming mint significantly attenuated. More importantly, Pez containers was revised to have the characteristics of a child's toy with cute animals heads acted as a delivery system spring load to participate, and almost magically produce each piece of candy. Dear children of the interactivity of the container and the fruit is delivered.

As a result of reinvention Eduard Haas Pez candy created an iconic brand. The success and popularity of fish sales have continued to this day. Very few consumers, even if they do not eat FISH, FISH not recognize when they see the nice color, inspired packages of sweet animals.

Many inventors, entrepreneurs and small companies hang their hats on a firm, "alpha" product. When or if sales are baffled delay. What can be done to revive the brand? A new marketing strategy? New Branding? New packaging graphic design? New distribution channels? These and other options must be considered. However, the option Eduard Haas, to reinvent the "alpha" product as a completely new, with new features and benefits is rarely considered. It should be.
